The Lemonade War

By Jacqueline Davies

  1. I couldn't put this book down- I read it in one night! I was so curious to see who would win the Lemonade War I didn't want to stop reading until I found out. Both Evan and Jessie had some very creative ideas for making money. I thought it was really funny when Evan got kicked off the town green for selling lemonade.

    Some questions for discussion:
Do you think skipping a grade like Jessie is doing is a good idea or a bad idea? Why?

Evan wants to spend his $100 on an Ipod, and Jessie wants to donate her money to a charity. What would you do if you had $100?

What do you think is Jessie's plan to get Megan's money back?

What would you have done if you'd been Evan and you knew that Scott had taken all of your money?

Who did you want to win the Lemonade War? Why?

  2. I couldn't put the book down either I read it in a day. I think that if Scott had taken my money I would've called the police. I think if I had that much money I would've bought something for myself. I love charity but when it comes to money I can be really selfish. I can't wait to pick out the next book to read!

    1. Elizabeth, we can all be selfish with money sometimes, I think. If I had the money, I'd split it. I'd give some to charity and use some for myself. I'd use it to save up for my next trip to Italy! :)

    2. I am so glad you enjoyed Italy (who wouldn't?!) and I definately agree that every human being can be very selfish with money. I beieve that Jessie skiping a grade is a mix of good ideas and bad ideas like what if Jessie is behind because she missed some key components of the grde she sipped. It is a good idea becase now she can be challenged instead wasting away precious time just being bored.

      Delete
    3. Of course I enjoyed Italy- you are right about that! You came up with some good reasons why skipping a grade would be good and bad. I wouldn't want to be bored, but I'd also be afraid I'd miss something if I skipped a grade! I think it would also be sad to skip a grade because you wouldn't be in class with all of your friends.

    4. That is another very good point. I think I would've wanted Jessie to win only because she was going to donate her money to a good cause other than that either would be a good choice.

    5. I also thought it was nice that she wanted to donate her money. I could relate better to her character since I'm more "bookish" like she is. I wanted Jessie to win too, but I wanted her to win honestly.

  3. What I would do if I had $100- I would spend it on a new cat and a new dog or a lot of fish. Or I would just get a lot of pizza. I would get the dog or cat because I really like animals.

    1. Will you share that pizza with your friends and family? Or just buy yourself some pizza every few days? I like animals a lot too- I'd probably buy my cat some treats or a new toy if I had more money! :)

    2. I might give some pizza to my family but not a lot.I would buy a pizza every night and still not get fat because I eat lots of candy every day and still no fat.

      Delete
    3. Marion- at least you are going to share some of the pizza! I think I would get tired of eating pizza if I ate it every night. I don't eat pizza very often- it is not one of my favorite foods.

      Delete
    4. Yea same here i don't really like pizza but I love sea food. Such as shrimp and scallops they are delicous. What is your favorite food?

      Delete
    5. I don't think that it is a good idea for Jessie to skip a grade because she might fall behind in lets say reading because the book really didn't tell us if she was good in reading. It did tell us what her favorite book was. I would be as mad as Evan because I'd look stupid if I had a Little brother in the same class with me. What if he answered all the questions and I would be sitting there doing nothing?

  4. if i had 100$ i would by soccer gear because soccer is my favorite sport and i would by a lot of pizza gonzalo

  5. if i had $100 i would by a a game or by pizza on it and never share it to no one.
if jessie planse to get megans money back i think she would do a nother lemonad stand.
i love this book and it was fun to read and i read it all night.

    1. That is a lot of pizza! Jessie could do another lemonade stand- even though she worked hard she did make a lot of money that way. It would be very honest if Jessie earned the money again rather than finding another way to get it.

  7. skiping a grade is a bad idea because you might not learn something new.

    1. Mac-
I agree. I think I would not want to skip a grade because I'd miss learning some really interesting things. Each grade has so many important and fun things to do and learn- I'd hate to miss any of them! When I was in school, I was hardly even absent! I didn't want to miss a thing.

  8. I would battle Evan because he has a little bit of money and i would try to earn a lot of money each day after school.

    1. Luna-
Do you earn any money now? I never got an allowance when I was little, so I started earning money when I was 13. I babysat for three kids that lived down the street for me. What are some ways that a kid could earn money?

    2. cleaning the house and then my mom can pay me and save my money for i want to buy because my mom dose that to me and my brother and then we save altogether the money and buy 2 games for our system.

    3. yes i would say that too. i would love to battle Evan and see who wins!!!!????

    4. Luna,
It is nice that you get money for cleaning the house! I'm also glad that you and your brother save your money, then put it together and get something big. It is nice that you share that way.

      Jenni,
What would you do to beat Evan?

    5. i would sale lemonade and other things to make people buy more things. i would go and sale every day and never stop until i win.

    6. Jenni,
How would you get people to buy your lemonade? How would you advertise and make people want to buy it?

  9. i really injoyed this book because i liked that it was little not verey sespenfull and i liked that it was a compation between a brother and a siter. if i had a $100 i would give havle of the money to chartey and save the rest. also i think that it would be nice to skip a grade would be great because it means your really smart but it would be kind of sad because say you skipped 5th grade you wold have to leave all your friends behinde.

    1. Ethan-
You make a good point about missing your friends if you skipped a grade. That would be very hard. I was in the same house until I graduated high school. I was lucky because I never moved schools and had to leave my friends. Do you compete with your brothers and sisters?

  10. If I had $100, I would save it, so I can save up for something super cool! I wanted Jesse to win because Evan was being really rude to Jesee. If Scott took MY MONEY I would have earned it back and kill him with kindness!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Tiana-
That is a good idea to save your money so you can get something bigger. What might you save up for? I also use the expression "kill them with kindness." I'd rather be extra nice to someone who is mean to me than lower myself to their level and be mean back. That is hard to do sometimes, so I am glad that you already feel that way.

    2. I would save up for college or a whole new room because mine is you guessed it, the color I hate...PINK! :(! I would re-paint it with Blue, Green, and Black. Now that is what you call a nice lookin' room! My Mother taught me the expression "Kill them with kindness" BTW. (I'm so glad you aren't an older person and you know what BTW means!)

      Delete
    3. Tiana,
I'm glad you think I'm "not an older person"- at least not yet! :) I think saving for college is a great idea. Although having your room be a color you don't hate would be nice too. My room is hot pink and black! You would not like it, but I do! I think your mom is a smart lady to teach you that expression.

BTW :) Congratulations again on your excellent SRI score! Keep it up- I'm so proud of you!

    1. Jenni-
You make a good point that you would have to be smart to skip a grade and I agree that working hard and learning a lot is very important! That is nice of you to split your money in half. What charity would you want to give money to?

    2. this book is asome its so catchy.i would give the $50 to what ever charity that really needs money.i cant wait until the next meeting!

    1. I think it is ok to compete for fun! My brother is very competitive and likes to win all the time. I just like to compete and play games against other people- I don't mind so much if I don't win. Do you have friends that are very competitive?

I don't usually compete with Beau, but I can guess that many of the boys in your class can be competitive! After all, I saw how hard you all worked for candy the other day! :)

      Jenni,
Do you play soccer with them? I like soccer, I think it is fun to play and watch.

    3. No i do not play soccer with them but sometimes i watch them. I play with Kathy and Hailey.I do like soccer but i don't really play it.when i watch them i always see Beau saying things like if they e=were really play a soccer match.

    2. i would get a sneaky plan.like putting a trick on him,a fake bank to save his money, something he wants and trade him for the money,or just sneak in and take his money.!!

    3. Jenni,
Those sounds like sneaky ideas alright! I just hope you wouldn't get caught!

  15. well it is a good idea because people can think your smarter than every one and you might be like a pop star or smarter than your brothers and sisters.

  16. I really enjoyed the Lemonade War. I do not have a brother, so it was interesting to read about the relationship between the two siblings.
